Renfrew Library Visits - Mission : 'Love Your Local Library!'

We all enjoy visits to our own school library every week. Now we've accepted the challenge to look beyond it to our local library in Renfrew just round the corner...
Mission Love Your Local Library is us becoming members of our local library and visiting it regularly out with school to help us develop a love of reading for enjoyment. Over the coming weeks every class will enjoy a visit to Renfrew Library and complete their membership by receiving their new library card and SKOOBS passport.
P5/6 were the first class to have their visit. Here they are listening to James reading them an amusing Scottish story.

They also chatted to James about what they've been learning in class and he has given some books on loan for their class library.

He explained what Renfrew Library has to offer and what we can do now we are members.
James and his library staff have worked their socks to get everything ready for our membership!
Time to enjoy using it.

Looking for a particular book? James is there to lend a hand.

Time to use the self scanning system.

Overdue books? Don't panic! The staff want to reassure us not to worry about returning our overdue books. They will be delighted to see you back with them.
Thank you to James and all the staff for a really enjoyable visit and all your hard work.

Now we have chosen our books it's time to go home and enjoy reading them.

Welcome Back Library Committee

Our committee are ready to accept the challenge this year brings, working in our school library and helping everyone in our school develop a love of reading. There have been a few changes in committee members so a big thank you to both past and current members for giving your time and enthusiasm so we all benefit from being able to lend books from our lovely library.

This session we have enjoyed being able to lend books from our school library. This would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of our library committee members and parent helpers who ensure all returned books are filed back on the shelves ready for eager readers to enjoy choosing.
Mrs Church would especially like to thank Mrs Espinosa and Mrs Messer for their continued help in maintaining our lovely library.

Books of the Month May/June

Our final recommendations for this year come from P2 and P6. Don't forget to check out your local libraries to see if they have these books - they could be  part of your Summer Reading Challenge!

The Amazing Spiderman - Marvel Storybook Collection
I think you should read this because it is an action packed super hero story with lots of exciting parts. Peter Parker is a fantastic hero who helps fight the bad guys with his magic long web. My favourite part was when Peter was bitten by the spider! I like to read this story to my brother.
James P2

Lemuel is one of our Library Committee members. Here are his thoughts about this book he enjoyed.

The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo
I'm recommending this book because it has a strong message to be caring to any animal. It is also very interesting, detailed and descriptive. It makes you tearful in a good way. It feels very realistic and it seemed as if I was in the book.
Lemuel P6

Books of the Month April

Here we have recommendations from P3 and P4.
Roald Dahl is a big hit with readers in P4. One book in particular was enjoyed by pupils Aiden and Chloe.

The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me by Roald Dahl
"It's funny and made me laugh when the monkey was dancing on the giraffe's head."
Chloe P4

"It's exciting and the characters are silly, funny and smart. They sing silly songs while cleaning windows!"
Aiden P4

Non-fiction books are popular with our readers and can relate to our learning in class.

World Book Day

A warm welcome back to Renita Boyle, a fabulous storyteller who we met for the first time during World Book Day last year. The whole school gathered together for a terrific start to the day with Renita. Her enthusiasm is infectious...we had great fun joining in a song with actions - singing it as fast as we could had us in stitches!
Renita has kindly gifted her book 'My Storytime Bible' to our library. She has written another book which will be published soon and hopefully she will be back to share it with us!

Some classes enjoyed Renita's storytelling workshops...

...while others enjoyed storyteller David Allison, who we loved listening to last year on World Book Day. He has travelled throughout Asia, Africa and South America and he tells stories from many cultures including our own. He also uses musical instruments from around the world in his storytelling. He had us captivated.

Anne Errington also shared her wonderful storytelling talent with us. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to her stories and letting our imagination soar.

Another enjoyable World Book Day for us all!

Book(s) of the month January

Primary 1 and 5 wrote book reviews this month, hoping to encourage readers to try their recommendations. P5 are definite fans of David Walliams and can't get enough of his books. His humorous novels won't be staying on the shelves of our library for long! Tiegan is keen to recommend one of them. She is joined here with Renita Boyle, a storyteller who we love and have enjoyed listening to on her visits on World Book Day.

Gangsta Granny by David Walliams
I'm recommending this book because it's funny and has a lot of cliffhangers. Ben, an 11 year old boy, hates visiting his Granny until one afternoon he finds a box of jewels in her biscuit tin. A few months later they both go to steal the Crown Jewels...
Tiegan P5

A book in Scot's language was greatly enjoyed by some P1 pupils. Look out for the Scot's section in our library the next time you visit!

Katie's Moose by James Robertson
I think you should read it because it's funny and it made me laugh. It is full of animals. It has parts to open and it is fun.

Storytime

So many wonderful stories to choose from! These children are enjoying one of them being read by Mrs Reid.

Book(s) of the Month - November/December

This time Primary 2 & 6 had the opportunity to make book recommendations. Owen in P2 chose a fiction book while Harris in P6 wants to encourage us to try a book about Egyptians in the non-fiction section. If you are learning about this period in history in class this might be of particular interest to you!

Horrible Histories Awesome Egyptians by Terry Deary
I'm recommending this book because it gives you all the facts however the author presents it in an interesting and funny way. It's child friendly. Also the illustrations are outstanding!
Harris P6

The Hungry Frog by Martha White
I think you should read it because it is funny. The frog tries to eat everyone and he eats a firefly and now his tummy glows.
